Food Paradise
Not sure what others mean by it tasting frozen–it doesn’t. Their food is very
fresh. This place is great. Easy to understand menu. Really nice interior as
far as small Italian restaurants go. Super friendly staff. Seems like their
takeout business does well.
This restaurant is adorable….it’s decorated with historic photos of the
Huntington area, many of them from the railroad. There are booths along the
walls, tables in the center, and a lunch counter with vinyl covered stools. I
traveled to Huntington for work, and decided I HAD to eat at the “birthplace of
the Hoosier Pork Tenderloin sandwich,” even if that meant I wouldn’t be able to
make it to the Dan Quayle Museum.
Make it a point to drive a little further and have yourself a wonderful family
style meal. Parking is no problem due to the large parking lot out back. I have
only been here for lunch and dinner but it always puts a big smile on my face
and I enjoy the family dining aspect of the meal. I usually get the wiener
schnitzel which is simply delicious. My favorite sides happen to be the corn
and the cottage cheese with green onions mixed in.
I could tell the place gets busy, but there was a good amount of space at the
bar, which is where I prefer to eat at Cuban places. You get a good view of the
servers’ hijinks with each other, not to mention the wide mix of tourists and
locals walking in and by.
After spending the day digging at Jamestowne, my wife and I decided to take the
long way home through Isle of Wight County and stopped again at the Smithfield
Inn, this time for dinner.
Arrived late, for dinner, on a cold Saturday night. Glad there was inside
seating, as we heard it was mostly outside. The menu is kind of hard to figure
out which direction they’re trying to go, asian (Korean?) meat lover, or
healthy. It’s certainly ‘all of the above’. Love’s very creative and the place
is eclectic and warm at the same time.
I am a fat kid, I love my coney dogs. I like American, but personally I like
National better. The chili is good, but it doesn’t have as much
seasoning/taste as Nationals.
Doggy-Style serves up some creatively delicious dogs. Pricey? I’m not sure.
Pretty reasonable for the quality and unique-ness of the food. You won’t find
hot dogs like these anywhere else. I have to watch my figure, so I usually
keep my order pretty simple…sausage of choice on a bread roll with mustard,
ketchup, onions, and relish. Husband has tried all the specials and hasn’t met
a Doggy-Style dog that he didn’t like.
Alright, so yes, this place totally lives up to the hype. I know a thing or
two about hot dogs, or so I thought….this place is amazing. I opted for the
special dog (An Alaskan Reindeer Meat Hot Dog, Butter-Rum Roasted Pears, Bacon
& Rosemary Infused Sauerkraut, Roasted Red Pepper Chutney, Beets, and Shaved
Almonds!) How could I have passed this up?! It was hot dog perfection.
Its amazing!!!! My only complaint is that there isn’t one in Tallahassee!! I
would have loved to try each and every dog on the menu.
There is no comparison. Lafayette is king of the coneys. I’ve been coming here
since I was 4. My dad used to bring me down before or after a Tigers game.
I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid, and I just love it more than I
can even say. But obviously, I’m going to try to say SOMETHING.
This restaurant used to be a dive with bad food, dingy atmosphere and
exorbitant prices. It has recently been refurbished to look like a 50s style
burger hop with good music, comfortable seating and free refills for soft
drinks. The burgers and dogs are tasty and the fries are just right. The one
problem with this place is that the food is not healthy. If you are going to
be a regular patron of this restaurant, you better have a good cardiologist on
speed dial.
Buck’s Grill House caught my eye, frankly, because they had a $40 for $20
coupon; visiting their site and looking at their menu, they had me at “grilled
boar, elk and buffalo sausages, topped with mustard aioli.”
Sunday breakfast in Lancaster should be a special meal. Scrapple, a grilled
sticky bun - with butter, an omelette and coffee.
We went today for lunch and used a recently purchased groupon - so we ordered
more than we would ordinarily. The bill came to $30 for 2 large entrees and 2
sodas - not cheap, but there are leftovers for at least 1 dinner.
I had the loaf-o-rama and a side of mac n’ cheese. I’d give five stars, but I
would’ve liked to have paid a bit less than $15. However, I’d go back again
without blinking an eye.
Fried chicken livers with gravy. Under $4. Yeah this is not fast food. Avoided
the “typical” menu items and went straight for the soul food selections. Not
disappointed in the least. Food was everything I expected: all the fried stuff
perfectly crunchy, the fried chicken being the standout. Meatloaf was like
grandma made, if she was from the deep South.
If I had a last meal on earth, it would be a hot dog. But you know what… a
hot dog isn’t really a hot dog to me. It was all I would eat for years growing
up. Every day, same ritual after school, steaming a dog and bun. It is one of
the foods that just brings me back to happy days every time.
Spectacular! I cannot comment on its sandwiches, which most people go there
specifically for, but their salads are absolutely marvelous!
