Food Paradise
Tommy Burgers are a part of LA history. If you haven’t tried a Tommy Burger,
you’re not a true Angeleno. Located on Beverly & Rampart in the heart of
Filipinotown, Tommy’s has been a part of LA for numerous decades.
I am so happy to have found a German restaurant that serves an assortment of
tasty vegetarian food! This place is by far better than Leopolds.
My son is obsessed with fire trucks so when mom suggested a BBQ place with a
firehouse theme, I knew it would be a hit even if the food was just okay. So I
was pleasantly surprised that the food was very tasty.
In 1926, Fred Angell, a respected butcher in Muscatine, Iowa, combined a
special blend and grind of the finest Midwestern ground beef with a selected
recipe of secret spices and created the one and only Maid-Rite sandwich.
When I finally got to the counter, it was a task in figuring out what to eat,
because the menu is set up with a unique selection of burgers, sandwiches, and
hot dogs. I didn’t know what to choose between a Pastrami burger or that
monster cheeseburger.
This place has nice drinks and decent food and many folks from the area seem to
frequent it.
I wish I still had my old metabolism. I could eat two of those if you let me.
The meat is well marinated, the fries aren’t huge, and my cousins and I have
found that it pairs well with Cabernet Sauvignon. We love hybrid
highbrow/lowbrow meals.
If I wanted a biscuit I’d go here. PS I hate biscuits … would be a five star
joint if I did like them.
Opening a restaurant called Bacon would have been brilliant and innovative 15
years ago- now it’s as if the designers got together and said, “How do we build
a restaurant that is guaranteed to be featured on the Food Network?”
Our Chicago friends took us here for the bacon and beer tasting evening, and we
were not disappointed. Five different beers paired with 5 different
bacons…..Yummmmm!
Driving to Zazu gave me a weird feeling as it is not in any central locations,
indeed, it has a farm field behind the restaurant!
Chocolate Chip Cookies are good and did I mention these cookies are huge. One
cookie could be your whole dessert. Whenever I have chocolate chip cookies, I
love it when the chocolate is a little melted, just like they are right out of
the oven. I microwaved it for 10 seconds. You can instantly get that “right out
of the oven” scent when you open the door - reminded me of my mom’s baking when
I was little. The cookie texture is dense almost like a brownie but the
chocolate chips…
We stumbled onto this place because it was right around the corner from the
hotel.
The duck phat fries are quite delicious. The only negative was that, about one
third of them were not crispy. Fries have to be crispy! However, they did have
layers of flavor with the duck fat, the dusting of sugar, the salt, and of
course the potatoes.
Gene’s has $4.99 rotisserie chicken….EVERYDAY!! No need to wait for
Dominick’s $5 chicken sales only to get disappointed when there aren’t any left
during the dinner rush or travel all the way to Costco. Gene’s has got a bunch
of chickens just waiting for you to take them home! I just made some tacos
with them tonight and they were delicious!
Let me start by saying that I never MEANT to watch Anthony Bourdain’s visit to
Sydney, and the delicious meat pies he ate while traveling, but I DID, and now
I have to tell you ALL about the hot and ready meat pie I ordered in Marietta
at the Australian Bakery Cafe.
I totally get why hes called the pizza nazi! There are some rules you have to
follow and if you follow them correctly, you will have an enjoyable meal.
Phone in your order at least 1 day in advance. Place the order for everything,
not only the pizza. Be there exactly when they tell you to be there and bring
cash. This is no place to go to if your a rebel!!!
Like many other reviewers, I want to give this place 5 stars but B&B always
leaves something to be desired. It’s a fun experience to build your own burger
and pick spices, but none of the rubs seem to infuse enough flavor to really
make a difference.
I cannot rave about this place enough! It is about 45 minutes outside of El
Paso, which may seem like a drive, but it is completely worth it. The
restaurant is part of the ranch where they actually raise the beef! Talk about
local!

I was in Cape Cod for a day visiting from LA. I actually never really heard of
this small local joint until I did some foodie search via Yelp and found out
Oprah listed their Chicken Pot Pie as one of her FAVORITE THINGS 2 years in a
row. I figure if it’s good enough for Oprah, it’s good enough for me and so I
took my mom to eat lunch here.
