Throwdown! with Bobby Flay
Hidden gem. The atmosphere is perfect. The food is tasty. The wait staff is
spotty, but not enough to taint my opinion of the place. Try the ravioli! Yum!
A visit to Brooklyn for the weekend. A friend took myself and my husband here
for dinner. From the moment we walked in the door the atmosphere was alive with
a cool vibe. We sat at the four seat bar and had a drink. The bartender had
personality.
The coming of cooler nights, diminished daylight, not to mention, fewer
tourists choking Maine roadways and lengthening the lines at Maine’s iconic
landmarks reminds me that the summer of 2012 is fast coming to an end. But boy
(and girl), what a summer it’s been.
First things first, I don’t consider myself a BBQ aficionado. I hail from a
place where we have a whole lotta good weather, but a whole lotta bad BBQ
(American BBQ at least). There are a few good places, but nothing that holds a
candle to the ribs I had at The Pit.. These ribs here are like a southern
mother, firm ,but tender.
My family and I discovered this place a while back after seeing it on Bobby
Flay’s Throwdown. We had no idea that it was right in our backyard, and boy was
it a find. I just keep going back… I’ve been there about ten times. I still
haven’t managed to branch out and try every section (heaven help me attempt to
try every item)– the menu is printed as a newspaper and it is chock full of
things to choose.
I’m probably in the minority here, but, to me, nothing beats a kinda-cold,
mysteriously wet soft pretzel. Please don’t psychoanalyze that statement. I’m
not projecting.
I ordered their famous carrot cake for Mothers Day (featured on Bobby Flay’s
show). The delivery got really screwed up and ended up not arriving on Mothers
Day (I was furious). I called in & the gentleman not only refunded my cake,
but also send me another one overnight.
I really enjoy everything I’ve ever gotten from Chicks, which is to say the
Carolina BBQ and chicken.
I think some of the meals packaged together are weird, I would like to see more
options with smoked chicken or turkey, but I have enjoyed what I get.
Was here today for a group lunch with my office team. We got a fixed menu that
was prepaid so I never saw and prices but I was firmly told not do skip out of
the meal (assuming to not waist money).
The wings: As other reviewers have said they aren’t as big as one might expect
from a place with such a claim to fame, but the wings are delicious–lightly
crisped on the outside, moist and perfectly cooked on the inside. What I
especially liked was that they aren’t dripping in goopy sauce.
I’ve been to Auntie Em’s numerous and numerous of times to pick up the mini
cupcakes to send to clients, thank yous, and birthdays. It’s the best present
ever and they are SO yummy that everyone always asks for more. Thank you Auntie
Em’s for making my life easier!
I go to Massage Envy down the street so this is an easy spot to stop on my way
home. The mojitos & service have always been good. The 1st time I was there I
had the Camarones Enchilados (Jumbo shrimp cooked in a spicy tomato creole
sauce). It was good, nothing spectacular but the shrimp was fresh and it was
flavorful.
Just go there and eat all of the things. Life is too short to not have caramel
apple cake and a peanut butter crispy bar and everything in between.
I ran across Big Man Bakes on some TV show, and I made it a point to give it a
spin during my recent visit to LA. This original outpost is located in
proximity to some other pretty phenomenal eateries, so it serves well as an
after meal cap–a very affordable one, at that. Who doesn’t want to eat little
cutesy things crafted per the recipe of a giant? To explain, the owner is an
enormous man.
Wandered into B&C on a Sunday morning and both my husband and myself were more
than pleasantly surprised with this bakery/cafe. We both tried the Kugelhopf
Morning Bun that was simple in presentation, but was just plain decadent.
Buttery, sugary, light, moist and not to be shared. Everyone would want their
own. Just wonderful with their oversized cup of coffee..
I have been coming here for a decade, and yes the pizza is damn good. In fact
the grandma slice is the best thin crust I have ever had. My lovely wife swears
by the pan slice which is light and slightly yeasty - not doughy at all.
Occasionally I get the chicken roll, but the real star here is the pizza.
Old school southern charm best describes The Brown Hotel.
Amazing service, staff, atmosphere and food.
Sweet Potato fries were to die for. My only suggestion is Red Bull at the bar
:)
I live on the West Coast and haven’t had anything quite like what this placed
served up before so it was a real treat. It made my day when my friend took me
here for lunch. First off, from reading other reviews it looks like there
usually is a line so I was relieved when the wait was all but 10 minutes
because all that city walking made me hungry.
Top 5 breakfasts I’ve had in my life. The wait can be long, so plan to come
early. I got a recommendation to try the blueberry pancakes with a side of the
sugar cured bacon. It was very sweet, but man. That was a great breakfast to
say the least. They use real blueberries to top off the already perfectly
griddled pancakes. The sugar cured bacon was hands down the best bacon I’ve
ever had. The outside is crispy and sweet, and it almost tastes like there’s a
very tiny invisible…
I am so excited to be the first reviewer! This place is hands-down awesome for
a diner. I am normally a healthy whole-foods type vegetarian, but occasionally
you have to go greasy. You just have to.
