Old Town Ale House

I’m told this is the classic Second City bar for performers, friends, etc. It’ll definitely get the job done if you need a beer or three after seeing some improv (especially if you’ve just gone to see your friend’s improv show and have to convince him how good it was…awkward). Not a ton of seating, but if you lurk long enough, you’ll be able to score a table or bench or three.

The Old Town Ale House is just off the busy intersection of North Avenue and Wells Street in Chicago’s Old Town community. It’s a few blocks walk from North Avenue Beach and gorgeous, lush Lincoln Park, just south of Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s across the street from Piper’s Alley, just around the corner from legendary Second City and Zanies Comedy Club and down the street from A Red Orchid Theater.

The neighborhood features several restaurants from Chinese to Mexican, from fast food and soup-and-sandwich, to family lunch and dinner, and fine dining. There are shops for clothes, shoes, gifts, plants; groceries, nail salons, pet stores, a 24⁄7 drug store, banks and ATMs up the wazoo. Just for location alone, the Ale House is a great spot to relax.
